Red Creek

After many months and attempts to paddle Red Creek, we finally got our chance in the most unexpected of moments. A strong line of summer thunderstorms brought inches of rain to the Dolly Sods and Canaan Valley. Most of the creeks had strong flows, especially for summer. We hopped in the car around eight in the evening on the fourth of July and headed west. We arrived in Davis, West Virginia around midnight, caught some sleep beside the Blackwater, and were up on the early side of morning.

We grabbed a quick bite to eat and headed up to the take out to drop a car. It was an amazing day, blue skies, white clouds and plenty of sun. The hike in through the Sods was definitely one of the best parts of the run. After a brief paddle in through some shallow sections, the river narrowed and the bottom dropped out.
Five hours later we were finishing a truly memorable run with great big smiles stretched from ear to ear.
